You may have already heard of high definition TV programming, because it has been with us for some time now and it is growing in popularity with each passing day. The one TV programming service provide that has the most high definition channels is Dish Network and they have thirty-one high definition channels with more planned on being added in the near future.
There are several things that set high definition programming apart from standard digital format programming and the one thing that you as a viewer will notice is that it has a far more defined and distinct picture and sound quality. This is because the picture is in fact six times as precise and defined as a standard definition picture and the audio feature of Dish Network high definition TV programming is digitized surround sound that also incorporates Dolby noise reduction technology.
Up until the advent of high definition TV programming this type of sound quality was only available on the best custom stereo systems and at theaters that used it to enhance the quality of the movies that they showed. High definition programming is an extremely data intensive programming format and it requires some special technology to broadcast and receive it, so you cant get it on a standard definition TV set with a standard definition satellite receiver.
This is also why cable companies can only carry a limited amount of high definition TV programming. Their problem is that their cables just won’t accommodate it in larger quantities, but Comcast is one cable company that is implementing the technology into their service infrastructure to enable them to carry more high definition programming channels.
The high definition TV set is very different from a standard definition TV set in that it has twice the number of vertical lines of definition and pixels in the screen and in fact it has one-thousand and eighty vertical lines of definition. The high definition TV screen is also wider and more rectangular shaped, while the standard definition TV screen is square in its shape.
If you haven’t yet seen high definition TV programming playing on a TV set yet, then all that you have to do is go down top your local home electronics retailer and take a look at the high definition TV sets that they will have playing on their show room floor. The prices on them have fallen dramatically in recent years and you may notice that they cost only a little more than standard definition TV sets.
